tft are able to design, develop and commission fully autonomous automation solutions to take your production efficiencies to the next level. Our offering includes Robotic Arms for material handling, parts assembly, packaging and similar tasks as well as fully custom pneumatic, and electro-mechanical automation solutions.

Automated multi-stage parts assembly cell

This work cell automates the 6-stage assembly of a product It uses a custom pneumatic tool assembly which includes a vacuum pick-and-place head, a riveter tip, a press rod and a final press head (all custom designed tooling heads). This tool assembly is mounted on a custom X-Y-Z gantry assembly, custom designed using precision electric linear drives. The pneumatic actuators in the tool assembly and the gantry assembly are all controlled by a PLC. The cell with a footprint of only 1.2 x 1.2m can fully assemble at least 250 units per hour completely autonomously, replacing 6 manual stages requiring at least 3 people and considerably more factory floor space.

The test cells themselves are fully automated using pneumatic actuators and clamp the PCB, advance all of the required contacts and begin testing as soon as a PCB is inserted. The gripper assembly proceeds to load each of the 8 cells in sequence. The number of cells was determined to match the test cycle time so that the first-loaded PCB will complete testing as the final one is loaded. The gripper assembly thus moves directly from loading the final PCB to removing the first-loaded PCB, removes it and places it on the appropriate exit conveyor belt depending on the test result. It rotates in a constant loop through this sequence as long as there are PCBs being fed along the feeder belt. It can run 24/7 without operator intervention.
